The draft manuscript for the sequel to Islands of Deception is going back for yet another round of rewriting and editing. This will delay the release of the book to spring 2025.
Through the process of having some advanced readers critique the draft sequel, I’ve learned more about the characters in the first book and what readers expect from them. People have become acquainted with Fallon, Alicia, Daniel and Cally and want to see what’s next for them. The most common thing I’ve heard is that they want to know what happens to the relationship between Fallon and Alicia. Most importantly they want to see Henry Massey taken down.
As I work on another draft of the sequel, I am gaining more insight into the characters from Islands of Deception. I am also seeing that as they experience life changing events in these books, the characters continue to change and grow. In the writing process I am also learning more about the technique behind publishing books.
Hopefully delaying the publication of the book by a few months will only make it better. I still recall the words of a person at my book talk last summer at the Beaver Island library after she told me not to rush writing the sequel: “We want it to be good.”
Thank you for your interest.
